Poison in his veins, Vengeance in his heart.

Filed under: Movie Review — Prophet of Doom @ 4:57 am

Thats a tagline from Crank, a 2006 movie I just happened to catch tonight with a couple of friends over dinner.   Pretty poorly made for a film that happens to be shot in the Mecca of Movies, aka Los Angeles.Crank_movie_poster

So there’s Chev Chelios, who wakes up to a drowsy start.  Struggling around an apartment, he gets his hands on a DVD that has “F*** you” written on it.  Playing back the DVD, he understands that he has been injected with some Chinese poison, that is slowing down his heart rate, and that he would be killed in an hour.  The rest of the 2 hours is spent in a maze of violence, sex, nudity and at least 500 utterances of the word “F***” .. and of course, trying to get an antidote.  Basically, the guy needs to keep the adrenalin pumping, else he would die.  And he does everything possible to do that ..

A well-thought-of concept, but pathetic execution.  Many of the scenes appear pretty poorly made.  Like the one where he’s slowing down, and to boost his adrenalin rate, forces his girlfriend to have sex with him in public … Ugghhh, please … This is just third-grade crap .. Definitely worth a miss …

Google Earth ..

Filed under: Random Quirks — Prophet of Doom @ 7:05 pm

almost everyone today knows about Google Earth, the software application from Google that offers maps and satellite images. Google Earth has transformed thousands of lives across the world. Drivers seeking directions at the click of a mouse; architecture and design folks who dream up ideas for snazzy new structures; military strategists planning attacks .. you name it ! .. everyone’s onto Google Earth. Gone are the days when I would call a friend to ask for directions to his / her house. Instead, just log onto Google Local, key in the start and destination addresses, and voila ! – there are the directions, step-by-step .. simple enough for a 6-year old to follow ..

And then there are some who prefer to raise a hue and cry over the possible security threats posed by Google Earth.  For them, here’s some relief ..reinforces my view that technology itself is not at fault .. only man is ..
