Thats a tagline from Crank, a 2006 movie I just happened to catch tonight with a couple of friends over dinner. Pretty poorly made for a film that happens to be shot in the Mecca of Movies, aka Los Angeles.
So there’s Chev Chelios, who wakes up to a drowsy start. Struggling around an apartment, he gets his hands on a DVD that has “F*** you” written on it. Playing back the DVD, he understands that he has been injected with some Chinese poison, that is slowing down his heart rate, and that he would be killed in an hour. The rest of the 2 hours is spent in a maze of violence, sex, nudity and at least 500 utterances of the word “F***” .. and of course, trying to get an antidote. Basically, the guy needs to keep the adrenalin pumping, else he would die. And he does everything possible to do that ..
A well-thought-of concept, but pathetic execution. Many of the scenes appear pretty poorly made. Like the one where he’s slowing down, and to boost his adrenalin rate, forces his girlfriend to have sex with him in public … Ugghhh, please … This is just third-grade crap .. Definitely worth a miss …
So the rumors were true after all … Apple just launched the new iPhone and the AppleTV at the Macworld Expo … Looks pretty sweet … Too bad the price is $600

But you know what, the Telecom carrier they’ve partnered with is Cingular .. maybe I can get one of these babies when my contract expires in December …
almost everyone today knows about Google Earth, the software application from Google that offers maps and satellite images. Google Earth has transformed thousands of lives across the world. Drivers seeking directions at the click of a mouse; architecture and design folks who dream up ideas for snazzy new structures; military strategists planning attacks .. you name it ! .. everyone’s onto Google Earth. Gone are the days when I would call a friend to ask for directions to his / her house. Instead, just log onto Google Local, key in the start and destination addresses, and voila ! – there are the directions, step-by-step .. simple enough for a 6-year old to follow ..
And then there are some who prefer to raise a hue and cry over the possible security threats posed by Google Earth. For them, here’s some relief ..reinforces my view that technology itself is not at fault .. only man is ..
I realized all of a sudden that the “coming up next” column on my page has turned rather feckless .. my posts seem to have a mind of their own, regardless of what’s written in that column … time to clean up my act …
I am reminded of George Bernard Shaw’s words … “We learn from experience that men never learn anything from experience.” …
Its another dull Sunday afternoon, and I’m trying to recover from the exhaustion of the previous week .. iTunes is crooning away … just then a line from Missus Em sends me a line on Jabber …
Lalita:
ah that’s a wonderful song
Lalita: was introduced to the genre by a fanatic friend
me: its more about the song than the genre
Lalita: that’s what i found, too
the song is a great poem and more
The number in question was none other than Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” … although Bob wrote the song in 1965, it feels as though he was looking at my life to draw inspiration .. anachronism or deja vu ? ,.. perplexing indeed ..
Like a Rolling Stone … by Bob Dylan
Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn’t you?
People’d call, say, “Beware doll, you’re bound to fall”
You thought they were all kiddin’ you
You used to laugh about
Everybody that was hangin’ out
Now you don’t talk so loud
Now you don’t seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal.
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
You’ve gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street
And now you find out you’re gonna have to get used to it
You said you’d never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He’s not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And ask him do you want to make a deal?
“Reality is just an illusion, albeit a persistent one”
- Albert Einstein
So its official now .. here’s the release from Google’s PR department that declares Google’s acquisition of YouTube for $ 1.6 Billion.
I was a little taken by surprise here … my gut feel led me to beleive that Yahoo! would take the initiative, since many of the search results on Yahoo! Video Search actually are links to YouTube videos .. A missed opportunity for Yahoo! … And think of it, its also a missed opportunity for Microsoft, as Scoble says, since MSN videos is practically uknown .. This would have been a great chance for Microsoft to get a foot in the video search door … alas ..
Apparently, YouTube is going to retain its own brand identity … So GooTube would still be called YouTube .. But then its always been YouTube, right ? …
